About

Hi!  I’m Rob the resident arborist.  Welcome to my site where I hope to bring together tree care companies, tree care consumers, suppliers to the tree care industry, and municipalities that create/manage/enforce tree care related city, county, and state codes.

I have been practicing tree care since 1989 and have been a certified arborist for a very long time.  In fact I was in one of the very first groups of arborists certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) in the Southern Chapter.  My certification number “SO (meaning southern area) – 0280 (meaning I was the 280th certified arborist in the chapter) – A” meaning I am a commercial arborist.  I have been a brush dragger, a climber, a foreman, a plant health care tech, a sales arborist, a consulting arborist, and after twenty years of working for other people I started my own company http://www.specimentree.net.  In there somewhere I was also a chemical sales representative.

Arboriculture is the art and science of trees as individuals (as opposed to a forest system.)  Most arborists specialize in specific geographic areas.  For example oaks in Georgia behave differently than oaks in California because of the soil type, soil moister, daylight hours, insect pressure and more.  The Southern Chapter of the ISA is comprised of members in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
